Crocus Blooms (Finally!)

So far the Liquid Fence is working! I have two new sets of blooms and I'm thrilled! These ones came up yellow which I wasn't expecting at all since the package only had white and purple ones on it. They're still pretty so I'm happy either way. Here's a few pictures to make up for not having any in my last post.

I love this picture. I held a bloom that Mya stepped on and broke up to the sky and took a picture of it. I love how the light filters through the petals and the clouds made a solid background so the sky doesn't distract from the flower. Please excuse my unmaincured nails.

Thief!

I finally had the first blooms of Spring in my garden. HAD is the key word. Yesterday, when I got home from work, I saw two beautiful Crocus blooms fully open. I was so excited, but in a hurry to go my photography club meeting, so I thought to myself, "I'll take some pictures tomorrow." Something made me change my mind and I ran outside really quick to take a few pictures before leaving. Thank goodness I did! This morning I went to leave for work and I noticed the flowers were missing. I looked around and it was as if the plants never existed. Rabbits!!! If you look close at the Crocus shoots that are left you can see the little nibbles. I've seen at least one rabbit who comes at night and eats the birdseed that falls on the ground. Apparently he's rounding out his diet with some greens.

So today, as soon as I got home from work, Derrick and I went to the garden store down the street to find out how I can humanely repel the nibblers. I bought this stuff called Liquid Fence. It smells terrible! It has garlic and rotten egg in it. So gross, but it's supposed to work. I sprayed all around my bulbs while holding my sweatshirt over my face. I really hope this works because my daffodils are sprouting and I'm going to be really sad if I never get to enjoy the blooms I have been anxiously waiting for.

My Bulbs Have Sprouted!

A few of my Crocus’s had sprouted about a month ago but then stopped growing. With the warm weather the past few days they have finally decided to start growing again and they passed the message along to the other bulbs that it was time for them to grow too. Here’s a picture of them today that I took with my camera and an older picture of them poking through the snow that I took in the morning with my phone on my way to work. I planted over 100 bulbs (Crocus, Daffodil and Tulip) in 6ft x 10ft area. With a tree taking up the center of it. It’s my first time ever planting them so I’m hoping I did it right. So far so good!
